Dear all,
It's been a while. I am now based in Berlin, Germany and have just got a 1983 W123 230E saloon. I still have my S124, it lives in London and still going strong thanks to Wayne Gates Servicing. Its nice but I was taken aback by the prices over here. I always assumed cars would be cheaper in the fatherland but that is a confirmed NO!
Anyway... I would like to install a discreet USB socket in the W123, ideally recessed, in the glovebox OR other suitable location, to run phones for SatNav and general audio. A double socket would be great for longer drives. Was looking on eBay this morning for relevant parts when it dawned on me, MB most likely have USB sockets in their newer cars, so why not order such a part from my local deal and fit that instead of something cheap and nasty from the Far-East.
Surely I can't be the first one to want to do this, in an older car. If anyone can help with part numbers, that would be most helpful. Otherwise I intend on keeping the car as factory stock as possible, it's even running the original Becker Europa (mono) radio complete with 'courier' function. Back in the day this 'option' cost 621 DM! The antenna is not working so have ordered a replacement but MB don't supply them anymore so have to slum it with a Hirschmann 2040 electric one.
Thanks in advance.
