W123 & SL from USA - Ripe & Luscious

Some of you may have noticed, the internet is a window to Rust Free & Fully Loaded classics Benz from the US. Air Con & Auto Climate Galore, even on such GB workhorses as W123 240 diesels (yes, Air & power windows on US versions). I personally would love a W123 CE with a 300 diesel turbo (yes very common on US models).

BUT, what are the pitfalls ? Has anyone imported one and how much does it cost and what about UK insurance ? I would be very interested to here of anyone's experiences.

Recently changed my SEC for a 1994 E220 coupe (lovely but I dream of a mint W123 coupe - love that chrome!)

The main things were the colour of the indicators and thats about it, many SL are still brought in from the States

When I lived there (California) I recall that not all versions of the 123 were imported.
I was counselled by a friend who had a 200D that the 240D which I had in the UK was only available to those who got them on the scheme where they bought direct from the factory, had a holiday in Europe and then shipped it back to the States. (He got his via that route). Still, California is different. (As I discovered when I lived in DC).
Anyway, we are going back a quarter of a century or so with the 123's.

ebay full of w123 with Air Con etc

Please take a look as ebay.com (MB collectors cars). It's full of lovely loaded W123 honey's!

I believe this was standard stuff for the US but unlike Europe, they still look fabulous and are wonderfully equipped.
