I have a w123 diesel. I changed the timing belt tensioner already. When it starts it sounds OK but after a few minutes there is a kind of metallic tinkling sound from somewhere at the front of the engine. The engine has done 110kms only btw.
Second problem. There is an oil leak at the seal of the injection pump where it mounts on the block. Can I just take it off, change the seal and replace it without messing up timing. Assuming of course the position is marked? I can't find an answer to this seemingly obvious question.
thanks

Iguess it was the camchain tensioner that you replaced. I recall they have duplex chains.

The noise from the front may well be from a water pump about to fail. If the chain is fitted with a split link then just mak sure it's fitted the right way and secure. If the noise is coming from that then disaster is not far away.

Technically you can remove and replace the fuel pump but checking afterwards would be a good idea.
