Hi All

First time on forum since buying my 95K miler 1992 230TE last summer. Great wagon and I love it having come out of a company car scheme where I had a ghia X mondeo (boring).

Few questions :-

1. My driver window does not close properly. Stops 2 inches from top and makes horrible whirring noise where motor doesn't recognise it hasn't closed. this is a pain when using remote alarm that closes all open windows. It just whirs for 30 secs which can't do motor much good. Got it booked in for repair but I'm prettty handy and would like to have a go myself. First stumbling block is how to get door panel off! Also, anyone know if it's easy to fix?!

2. Have leak in boot - seems to be coming from nearside rear panel ? But have had window seal checked. Damp gathers in the under floor compartment. Is there a common cause?

3. How easy is it to fit a/c afterwards?? Should have gone for a car that had it fitted as an option!

If anyone can help, would be grateful.

Phil

getting the door panels off is fiddly, if you've got a manual mirror you need to remove the clip that holds it in - push the hanle inwards to release the pressure on the clip. To remove the mirror trim, unclip it at the top, pull it towards you and then upwards to disengage it.

Next gently prise off the trim around the door handle - a close look will show you where it "splits" and it's just a press fit. behind the foam wedge is a bolt/screw that holds the top of the door pull and pull the door handle clear.

Unscrew the plate around the door lock. The panel should now lift upwards to come clear of the door.

It's a while since I took one of these apart but as far as I remember that's the procedure

My guess is that the window regulator needs a little attention or that the window is popping out of the guides.

Not sure on the leak - our 230TE is bone dry but I'm sure someone else will have suffered this one.

You don't want a 230TE with A/C - fully loaded they really suffer from a lackof power. Much better to open a window/sunroof etc.

hello

my 89f 230te lets in a little water in the boot, drivers side under floor.
I found out that the window rubbers are letting it in on both sides but the drivers side seems worse, must get the rubbers changed, as this must be a common prob.
With regard to the window prob, get a haynes manual and get a new window regulator about £50 a bit fiddly to change but ive done a couple now and there not to bad.

Also in regard to the aircon, i am also thinking of getting it fitted, my only concern would be the fuel consumption, not the power and mine flys along fully loaded with 3 kids and all the stuff too, ive heard that they are slightly underpowed but not mine!

Anyway good luck and keep us posted.

Window Regulator

Hi!

My 230TE has the same window problem. You will find that the teeth on the window regulator have broken off. It will be the last two or three teeth at the end of the windows travel. Thats why it wont completely shut!

I think it happens when the window switch is kept pressed to make sure the window is shut. Over time the teeth break from the pressure. If your window is shut, its shut so don't keep pressing the button whe you get a new regulator!

My dad once had new teeth welded on to a window regulator once and it worked! It was a Chrysler Avenger he owned!!!!!!

My car leaks like a sieve from window and door rubbers. Its cack!

Hope this helps.

hi there

i can only comment on the window leak - mine is in exactly the same place. i had some silicone injected into the rear bottom corner. it is not perfect but it is ten times better. just remember that if you store the car, make sure it is dry first otherwise it will stink !

cheers

sebastian.

I've the same window problem, took the door panel off ( easy, as per haynes ) and found the same as vidfletch has said. The teeth on the lever mechanism have worn at the end of the movement, i thought about building it up with weld and then cutting new teeth . New part is quite expensive.
