Hi, my faithful and trusty 230e got an advisory for the exhaust on the recent MOT. How much can I expect to shell out and what is the availability like ?

May be worth having one made boy a specialist like Torqueflow.

You could ask a MB dealer, Grangemouth are forum sponsors and offer discount, unless you are near them I would hate to see the postage costs

factor in how lonk you want to keep the car. MB exhausts last a very long time so the higher price may be justified

Complete systems on ebay from £120.
I have used these cheaper systems on a w124 and w210 without issues.
Middle and rear boxes join up to existing pipework under car with no fitting issues.

I'd look to see if it could be welded.

I had an advisory for my VW Caravelle exhaust... the outer skin of the back box was corroded with a few holes in it... I used my dremel and cut the damaged out skin off cleanly, it was never mentioned on the MOT again... It made no difference to the structural rigidity or the working of the exhaust it just looked unsightly and an easy observation / work for the MOT garage.

Have a cheap third party centre section fitted to our 129 and apart from an alignment issue resolved by the fitter it's been fine.

Find the MB part numbers and Google them, looking for Eberspaecher equivalents. These are likely to be original spec and top quality. Yes, you can find cheaper but maybe nastier.

Go stainless steel best investment you will make if your keeping your car .
One was fitted on mine in 1995 and as yet its still going well .So how many mild steel pipes would you have to fit in that time ?
