Hi!
I have just bought a 88 E reg 230TE. It is in pretty good condition with good engine and box. Bodywork not too shabby unlike the interior!
There are a few faults which through reading the forum I know how to tackle. However the Brake Pad Warning Light flickers on and off or stays off or stays on! Interestingly when I press the brake pedal it goes off. The guy I bought it off said it would probably need new brake pads soon and I have no reason to disbelieve him. I would have thought that either the light would stay on like previous Non Mercs I've had or come on when I pressed the brakes.
The brakes are fine and pull up straight and strong. I will get the pads checked and changed next week when I have money but this On or OFF business is confusing!
The car pulls slightly to the left more than it should and I have wheel vibration at 60 mph. I assume this is the wheels needing balanced or tracking. This is unrelated to the brake query. The local garage who serviced or repaired my previous VW Passat also supply and fit tyres. They are very good so should I trust them to look at the wheels?
Should I go to a Mercedes specialist for routine servicing if I have a good local garage instead? Would I be better to use a specialist for repairs? If so, any ideas who in SCOTLAND I should use?
Thats all the questions. Hope someone can help because the car is fantastic!
