Hi i have just re engined this car ,and am having trouble with the many connections & vacuum pipe routings on the fuel injection system .I am getting no fuel supply to system & no sound from inj pump .I am favouring a bad/wrong connection in the inj / inlet manifold system on electrical or vacuum pipe area .I did'nt strip the vehicle down ,so am a bit lost .I have'nt had to deal with such a big jig saw for a while :) I know the vehicle started perfectly before the engine was swapped due to big end problems .So am pretty sure it is something minor preventing the engine starting .I would appreciate any wiring diagrams and vacuum hose routing diagrams ,any of you may have .I would be willing to pay a fair price via pay pal .Thanks in advance Steve

There should be a green/red wire going to the KE Control Unit (pin 21)

and another one, green/black, going to the EZL Control Unit (pin 1)

On the fan side, there should be a black/red wire (12V) running to the fan temp switch. Then a wire from the switch, black, that connects to a black/red/white wire which runs to the fan clutch. There should be brown wire from the clutch to the chassis as well.

Do you still need pics?

Hi thanks for the info . i will see how i get on with that ,Can you tell me what the wiring colours are on the 2 3 pin plugs at front top of throttle body as the 2 plugs are identical and will fit either socket ,probably wont need pics ,it was only for the vacuum pipe routing ,the only grey area as far as that is concerned ,is the little valve on the top left of the head with two vacuum connectors .I Would love to know where their pipes go to.Thanks for the wiring colours .Really appreciate your time on this .Engines running now but is trying to over rev & i have to switch it off .The throttle cable is returning as it should ,I'm thinking maybe a bad pipe connection somewhere on the inlet side .Or maybe i have some plugs round wrong way
Thanks again Steve

I'll have to take the air filter off for a look. I'll do it tomorrow.

I'm not sure what these are called in the Haynes manual. They are probably, the Air Flow meter and the Throttle Valve switch.

The Airflow meter has brown, black/white and blue/green

The other one should have brown/yellow, brown and grey/yellow.

I guess if you get these mixed up then the engine could go all over the place.

W124...but I was taking the colours from the Haynes manual.

Looking at the car in daylight, the airflow meter seems to have Blue/White, Blue and Blue/Green wires.

That explains it ! i thought the wires looked the same colour as mine on the pic .Appreciate your help .Does yours have the sensor at the left front of the cyl head ,with vacuum hoses coming out of it ?If so where do they go ?
also the actuator that controls the cold start injector -- where does its vacuum pipe go to ?by the way found a really good site with full manuals for 190s http://mb.braingears.com .A lot of stuff is same for our models
Thanks again Steve

I'm just about to do it on a 124 - any tips?

Turnipsock
I am going to get the dash out at the weekend to replace all six vacuum pods and hopefully restore my HVAC as new (cant wait, it was great five years ago). I am trembling a little at the prospect but know there's no way around it this time , i just have to go through the pain.

Can you give me any advice ,pics, procedure . I have haynes but its pathetic really as is the W124 bible. I would rather hear in less words from someone with recent experience. I just need the quickest safest way to get the dash out and back I am confident of the vac pod replacement part as I have been reading up on that for weeks.

any advice appreciated.

I can't get the braingears site to work properly, am I missing something? It looks like it will be the business though. I now know how I can pass a late shift at work...hope they have enough paper in the printer.

I'll have a look at vacuum pipes tomorrow night.
Where is the actuator for the cold start injector?

Keith: I no real expert on this sort of stuff, but, like you, I'm not afraid to have a go. There is a thread kicking around just now about dash removal. It looked a fairly simple job to remove it, but what you end up with looks scarey. Actually, once you get to that stage you could sort a load of stuff, even simple things like getting the accelerator pedal working well would be a doddle.

I had a quick look this morning. Yes there is a sensor, with two vacuum pipes, at the front of the block.

I haven't followed them through fully yet. One joins to a gizzmo thing with a further two pipes, one of which goes to the distributor.

The other one to the block, and the one to the gizzmo disappear under the manifold somewhere.

Hi turnipsock . Site should work ok ,but i tried today and no joy .may be down for maintenance .
I have a feeling there is a difference on your car .as you mention a vacuum pipe going to the dissy .Mine has nothing like that ! the timing is sensed with a sensor on back of engine block with pick ups on flywheel, or flex plate in my case .There is actually nothing in my distributor just a rotor arm and shaft .The only cables going to it are the 5 HT leads .There is one other little curiosity i'm trying to sort out .It is the fact i have 2 temp sensors 1 on the water pump & 1 on the top left of the head .Its running sweet now any way ,i just need to sort out the fan clutch supply .It isnt cutting in when i short out the 2 pin plug on the sensor ,Maybe its a fuse .
Cheers for everything

I have been printing off a few chapters at work each day, but today I couldn't get onto the site.

The diagrams there are much easier to under follow than the pictures in the Haynes manuals.

Have you got your engine running yet?
