W124 3.2 Coupe Aircon controls hot to touch

I have previously asked questions as my rear window demister and my intermittent wiper won't work.
I drove yesterday with the aircon on blowing hot (with the headlights on so the controls are illuminated) and noticed the knobs almost burn your fingers. Is this normal?
