Car would be almost silent if it wasn't for a perpetual buzzing from underneath the nearside facsia speaker. Its not the speaker, I've had this off + it still buzzes.

Are there any pumps or the like in the vicinity? Its not the blower either and I'm pretty certain that its not a fan because the noise stops and starts immediately when the ignition is on.

I'm tempted to take the liner off the glovebox, but the switch-the-******-alarm-off button is in there + don't want to start buggering about with that until I've got a clearer reason for doing so.

thorts ?

There's quite a few relays in the vicinity. I believe there is one inside the dash behind the glovebox.

There is also a few behind the firewall behind black plastic cover between battery and cabin that could be making the noise.

Sounds like it could be the fuel pump relay if it is a continuous drone. I'd get in there and establish which one is making the noise, get its part number and either temporarily swap with the same relay from another car to test (wize option) or buy a new one.

In any event, it shouldnt be hard to narrow down.

If it is, as Spike suggests, the fuel pump relay the stealers want £140 + vat and GSF £63 + VAT. Not cheap either way but hope this snippet of info is useful.

there is a very small blower motor under there which is connected by a pipe to a vent up in the interior lamp, this draws air for the inside temperature sensor to detect, motors about fourty quid, that will cure your problem. easy to check when you find it with the ignition and hold it you will be able to feel it

Justin, Ade + Spike

Justin was right.

Liner out, got ignition on, poked about + nearly crapped myself when my finger hit the exposed impeller wheel !!

Took it out, shook it, cleaned the 135 thousand miles of dust off it, prised the impeller away from the body a little bit + sprayed a bale of Mr Sheen at it.

Silence is golden !! How long it will last is another matter, but its a piece of cake to replace. Helped matters by _not_ forcing it back into the bracket; seemed quieter + didn't foul anything.

Thank you all, once again.
