A friend and I are attempting to change the heater control light bulbs on a 1992 300CE and have hit a brick wall!

We removed the control knobs only to be met with two round brown plastic clips around the bulb holder(s). Without removal of the plastic clips ,we cannot get behind the wood trim to then replace the bulbs for the temperature control dials.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Simon,

According to the Merc’s shop manual, after removing the two control knobs you should have encounter two 24 mm nuts that need to be unscrewed; along with two screws that are on the underside of the ledge that is beneath the climate controls, and above the radio. When these are removed you should be able to remove the wood molding.

This should expose a plastic plate for your switches and climate control. Remove the four screws two are located in-between the climate control and your switches; one on each side. Then the other two are located in the middle of the top part of the plastic plate.

After these are removed then gently pull the plate forward so that you can unplug your switches and remove the plastic plate. This should expose the climate control for servicing.

Hope this helps!
