W124 '93 E320TE s/line making a whining noise at the back...

Is this the fuel pump...

It is a new noise that onlt started y/day pm after a 2 hr run.
It is more of a whine when indaide the car and more of a rattle when crouching down outside the car at the rear...

Any suggestions gratfully recieved..

is it coming from the drivers side just in front of the back wheel....if so, your fuel pumps are located near there and are behind the plastic cover that hangs from the floor pan by the back wheel.

Just been to start the car and the noise is not present...very strange...

If it is the pumps, are they easy to get at through removing these panels and can you give me a guestimate of would we would likely pay to replace them...

They are easy to get at....you just have to jack the back of the car up, remove the cover tray, which is held on with a number of screws and there they are.

Not cheap to replace!!!! and if you replace one it normally ends up with the other packing in , although it can take some time for this to happen. It just depends how strong the remaining pump is.
