Has anybody successfully fitted a replacement air-con evaporator to a W124 (mine is a '95 E320) Does the entire dash have to come out or can one get away with just the centre console and lower facia? Are there any points to bear in mind when doing the job? My local dealer has quoted me a small fortune to do the job. Anybody able to recommend a reliable air-con specialist/independent MB specialist in East Anglia?

Hi,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that dashboard has to come out!

You might not think so, but it's not that difficult, you just need to take lots of photos, and label every wire and connector.

I did it, I fitted aircon to an Opel Monza, half way through the job I wondered what the h*ll I was doing, but the pictures and labels allowed me to put it all back together.

.....or how much do you value aircon ?

Regards,

Richard

thanks richard, sorry to take so long to reply, i'm hopeless at checking my mailings. Have got several quotes from specialist air-con repairers - all around the £700 mark. This seems to be the going rate and they all reckon on about 10 to 12 hours work. I'll probably stump up the money in the end (when the weather gets hot!)
Thanks again, john
