Hey,

I have noticed that two of my vent lightbulbs are out (the central vent and river side one) and so is the headlight switch bulb.

Has anyone changed these? Any instructions or tips would be helpful as I don't even know where to start.

Thanks!

Are you sure the headlight switch should light up?

Yes, it did last time I looked at it (3 months ago, as the car lives in Italy with my mom).

From lack of responses I guess nobody has done this? :(

The headlight switch bulb can be replaced by carefully pulling the knob off the switch

The outer vent bulbs can be replaced by removing the vent. To do this you'll need to release the 4 catches (two upper, two lower) and withdraw the vent assembly. The catches can be seen inside the vent by using a torch. Release them by pulling them towards the centre of the vent with a thin screwdriver. Having six arms is useful for this job

I believe the centre vent is similar to the outer ones

Thanks Nick, I noticed the centre vent has a couple of extra screws holding it in, one hex insiside it and one philips on the inside of the glovebox (bad news if its an airbag model...). I will try the outer vent going with just the catches, wasn't sure if there is a screw on the side too.

As for the headlight switch, I pulled off the knob and saw a bulb, thanks. But is that the one that illuminates the switch itself, or does it illuminate the orange dot, warning that you have foglights on?

(so many questions, such a simple matter..)

The latter. My mistake. The switch bulb, if there is one, is behind the plastic trim. Remove the knob, unscrew the big nut & remove the trim. It's behind there as I recall

Thanks, thats great, at least now I know that I can remove the bolt for a reason (whereas before I wondered if I'd just be making more trouble!)

Sorry to hijack the thread - but I figure it's better than starting a new one - but would I be correct in assuming the above operation should help to free up a sticking (central) vent too (won't slide downwards, pointing at the headliner all the time...)?

Regards,

Edna, I haven't done this 'operation' yet, but I know the result is having the central vent off. So, I figure that doing this will probably at least help you check it out better and see whats the issue.

RGubbioli,

If you could post back when you've tried this it would be most appreciated. I'm always a little tentative when it comes to 'levering' bits of trim, etc!

Edna', I know exactly what you mean... which is why I wonder when I will attempt the task myself. But when I do I will post to let you know.

This is a vile job, lost all interior lights on my 300D half way across France, on investigation in a layby. It was connection to multifuntion light switch. Lucky I had multimeter 24mm socket in my toolbox.

Had to superglue knob on switch, hope the fog light warning bulb never fails for an MOT or I'll be reaching for the acetone to melt the glue.

From memory, the interior light feed loops thru dash pcb after the fuse.
