Hi

I have a W124 1996 cabriolet e320 sportline and want to find out where I can get an AMG conversion for bodykit, suspension and alloys (and possibly engine too). Has anyone done this or know of a genuine company able to do this. Campbell

I'd contact AMG and ask them if they still manufacture any of the parts for the W124 chassis. If they don't you'll have to find second-hand or "new old stock" parts

You may be just a couple of years too late - many of the MB main dealers turfed out their stock of older parts fairly recently. In many cases, straight into a skip

Thanks i will do that. It might even work out better to sell and just buy a amg cabriolet.

Unless you have deep pockets I would not bother modding such a rare car. Not only will it end up losing value compared to what you will need to spend, but the the difference, especially in performance , is never worth the extra bucks.

If you really like the look of AMG bits, punt the e320 on and buy a cheaper base model to play around with.

All my opinion of course ,but be prepared for some big spending if you decide to go down that road.

id also be suprised if the engine is still obtainable from amg too , the conversion is quite elaborate looking at the info that amg show with mine , everything from the intake manifold to the ecu has been changed to produce the 3.4 conversion. the bodykit might be avialable as remolds though from specialist bodykit companys , never quite as good quality as the original items from what ive seen.
even more expensive would be obtaining the e36 engine , that would be a wallet eater too

All the parts are still available via Merc dealers, but you need to have the VIN for the AMG car to give them, so you need a friend/dealer that has an AMG car and get the VIN from the windscreen.

However, as you say, very expensive, much better to change cars.

I was in two minds as to the value of making these changes and given the unanimous response I will not go for a conversion. I might just settle by putting some 17inch AMG alloys and slightly lower the suspension.
I found a good site for AMG bodywork who claim to use genuine parts
http://www.cksperformance.com/mercedes/Mercedes.asp?SID=7
These guys quoted me £1366 plus vat for front, rear and side skirts supply only unpainted - how does that sound ? Still tempted to change the bumpers - do you think this will devalue the car ? car is currently mint 99k and I am the second owner - views ?

Many would not touch cks performance with a barge pole, other Merc sites have extensively documented their shortcomings on a regular basis and the message would appear to be , leave well alone.

Price seems about right for the bits. Gen. II AMG front spoiler is £860 alone from the stealers, but you will have to add fitting and paint to the price. Plus when its finished, the bodywork, wheels and all the trimings will have set you back 3K(?) and added very little to the sell on price and zero to the cars performance.

Keep it original and buy something someone else has already done and save yourself the grief and cost. In fact you can buy mine from me when its finished.........3.6 AMG twin turbo 300E, sportline interior, A/C, heated memory seats, S/R, Carlsson rims, Brabus 6 and 4 pot caliper brakes, Eibach springs and Koni top adjustable shocks, ERL water injection etc etc etc.

Sorry that all the comments seem to be advising against your plans, bottom line is if YOU like the look of the thing then go for it .

E36's pop up in the classified quite frequently - like the others I suggest that going down that route is a much easier and more cost-effective way of going about it

Guys thanks for the tips. Maggot your right will stay away from these expenses.....what I will do is perhaps just buy some 17inch AMG alloys 5 spoke and may be lower the suspension a bit. Given your experience can anyone recommend to me a genuine AMG supplier who could also lower the suspension for me ? Advise much appreciated.
