I'm hearing an occasional tinny sounding clunk coming form the left hand rear side, usually when going over speed bumps or reversing turn onto drive. All bushes seem solid behind, the car runs very smooth apart from the very small lines or slightest of holes on roads giving a sharp thud type sound/vibration leading me to persue new shocks. Just add that i did get bit of a shock when kwik fit quoted me best part of £300 for front shocks, before fitting.

front shock are not just shocks on that merc but it is the whole of the suspension and steering knuckle supporting strut.

Shocks on these mercs can last a lifetime and are not generally the first things to look at when suspension problems arise.

It is the many many bushes in the various links that wear.

I mentioned this to you last time - that you need to take your car to a Merc specialist that understands them. Kwick fit are definately not the people for Mercs.

Your car needs to be off the ground to test the various rear suspension links for wear.

You will find the car a revelation in the way it drives and steers after repalcing worn rear links.

Yes i do remember that now thanks, at the time i was coming across other niggles which i have sorted now and im kind of coming back to earlier things i noticed. The last thing i renewed was the steering damper, read up on issues with this on here, and it has made a big differance on motorway. Any passengers always comment on how smooth the ride is and its surprising on cornering, especially for a 20yo car but as i say some of these smaller bumps on road make me cringe at the noise, thats from the front might i add. You can hardly feel the sleeping policmen though.

It could be rear ARB bushes / links, the bearing at the foot of the rear suspension leg, a worn rear suspension arm bushing or the rear subframe leading bushes. Lots to look at
