My 1988 230e W124 is difficult to start when cold. Also the ABS warning light goes off when the car starts but lights up again at about 10mph and stays on permanently. Other threads on the forum suggest a faulty OVR relay - sounds feasible, but the description of this part - i.e. clear flip lid with fuse beneath, doesn't match anything I can locate on my car. Any idea what this looks like on a 230e saloon? Any pics or description of unit and location?

Your Mercedes
BMW 525 Diesel Touring
Ovp

The OVP relay is behind the battery. It may be behind a plastic shroud

On high-spec cars there's all kinds of stuff hiding back there...

Your OVR relay has little or anything to do with ABS, If the lamp goes off when you srart the car and stays untill you move, you have a wheel sensor problem. good news its the cheapest

I have located the OVP relay - it was under a black plastic cover. The fuse was intact. Without the fuse in place the car seems to function as usual, except the ABS light illuminates immediately. Seems like the OVP is OK, but is there any way to test the relay unit?

Interstingly, I have noticed that the ABS light only comes on at about 10mph in forward direction. Stays off in reverse at the same speed - does that still point to a faulty ABS sensor? How do I test these?

What about the cold start problem? Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a 17 year old car...
