I have been told by a local mechanic who carried out an MOT that my e220 96' coupe is leaking power steering oil. there are no signs of this during driving but it is true that often when the car is parked there are some small signs of oil droppings on the street right under the engine. does anyone know how to check the oil level and where?

The resevoir should be on the nearside/front sort of area.

Is the leak coming from the steering box?

Good picture Malc.

If it's the first type then press down on the lid and unscrew the rubber nut with the other. then lift the lid off and the level should be about 1/2" from the top oil hot. It's common for them to leak gently from the steering box, I ignore it and clean it off before an MOT. The other place is the copper washers under the banjo on the side of the pump.

Many thanks for a prompt reply. I will check in the morning providing the car doesn't get snowed in tonight.
