Thinking of buying a 1994 E220 Coupe. Noticed that the drivers door window hadn't raised up fully, and was maybe a quqrter inch from where it should be closed. Tried to move it up just got clicking sound, same when I tried to move it down then. had been working fine earlier. Owner said it just needs a little help sometimes. Slight push up on glass and window closes ok.
Does this sound like an easy or an expensice thing to fix ? I usually try to do the smaller jobs on my cars myself. Would the problem be with the motor in the door, or perhaps a gear on this motor losing teeth or something. Do they use metal or nylon gears ?

Thanks.

You can almost guarantee it's the window regulator which has worn out.

The last tooth snaps off leaving you with exactly the symptoms you have (strange coincidence here but both of my front ones have failed within the last week). Either replace the mechanism (but not the motor) or remove it from the door and build up the last tooth with a couple of spot welds then file it down to size.

One of those fixes will cost a few quid - regulators sell for anything betwen £20 and £50 on eBay the other (welding) will cost pennies. Living with the fault is free but annoying :)
