My air conditioning/climate control does not seem to be very efficient. On a hot day, it really needs to be on blower setting 2 and recirculating to keep the cabin cool.

My questions are: Does the system need re-gassing?
Is there a gradual reduction in efficiency as gas levels reduce?
If this is the case will the car be more efficient if the air conditioning system is re-gassed and running optimally?

I realise the above is all a bit subjective but opinions/advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Mike..........My W124 E320 is exactly the same ie I only really get good aircon flow when the re cir button is on. Maybe its just the way they are. My 190e was the same too

Yes the efficiency will drop as the gas levels drop. So it may well benefit from regassing. I haven't tried a 124 air con system when it was new but I suspect, given how effective the one in my 211 is and the markets these things were built for, it was pretty good originally.

Initially with any reduction in performance of heating or climate control systems you should ensure the dust/pollen filters are not blocked ,as these can drastically reduce the airflow through the system also leading to burnt out blower motors and regulators.
The filter should be changed at least every 2-years or more frequently depending on conditions.

The W124 E220 I bought last week needed the aircon regassing. I had it done yesterday and it's now ice cold. Funnily enough if you hit the recirculation button, it does appear to get even cooler.
With this weather, it was the best £60 I've spent in a long while!
