Hi, I'm new to the group having just got my first Mercedes which is a 1992 E230 automatic, very nice car with low mileage of 92k. The issue I'm having is a small amount of water in the boot, 've read other thread and have checked the usual culprits and today decided to get in the boot when it was raining. The water appears as a small pool on the left of the boot looking from the back and on checking it is dripping down inside the box section where the wiring runs and the boot lock is and then out of a seam between the box section and the boot, it appears to be getting under the boot seal and entering the box section via the indentations in the pressing that are thumb nail shaped. Anybody else had this or got any ideas to stop it?

I've checked the rear lights, nothing there. The boot seal appears to be ok and I've just found something on another forum, it appears the boot seal should be glued down and the back of the seal on the pictures shows a cream like substance which is the same as mine, they recommend using 3M weather seal adhesive on the vertical flange and the flap on the side of the boot seal.

Also you should have a small clear bag on the base of the aerial inj the boot , because water can get in through the sections of the mast if it is in the up position and raining . A place that water lies after a rainstorm is in the left and right top corners of the boot where the rubber seal curves around the opening of the boot.

Here are a couple of photos, the first one is the back of the seal and the second is where I think the water is getting in.

nimdy i think your right .If water came in at the top of the gutter by the screen so much ic could get past the seal if the glue type material was doing nothing ..My way out of this would be a new seal and re glue it in to place, after all the old glue is removed ..i will check in the m,anual just how it fitted in I found no information in the manual how to do it . It will need replacing and new sealant on the lip ...I found another guy on the web that had the same problem as you have.Looks like it is a comon thing .But on a W126 same idea . 20201025_173941.jpg

Thanks, that looks like the same photo I was looking at on another site, I was surprised how little I found out there as there were so many of these cars produced.
I will report back once I have received the glue and sorted it.

I have read that some have used 3M products also glue substance is only put on the lip the seal goes on to .. there is a join of both metals in the lip so water gets in there .
