My wife has a '94 E280 W124. It's done 148,000 and been teriffic, we've owned it from 80,000. Just recently it's begun refusing to start.

Not spluttering or anything just turning over dead. If left for a few mins, maybe a bit longer it started. It went to a local garage and they traced that the Skorpion alarm connectors were green, so they cleaned them. It started so they reckoned they'd fixed it. Anyway two
days later it failed again.

It's been getting worse and today it just plain won't start. So it's stuck on the driveway and we can't even get it to a repairer.

My question is, anyone any ideas on what the cause it. I thought it may be a relay sticking...where are the relays on this car ?

It never stops when it's running, just doesn't always start. Like I said it's almost definately electrical in nature.

Thanks in advance

Hi Paulash,

Take a trip down to your local dealer with your chassis number. Ask them for a "overload protection relay" it will cost you  £40 plus vat. Replace the relay sited at the back of the battery. It may be under a small black cover.

If this doesn't sort it.
Then get it into me!
