Having collected my shining car from the body shop on saturday with its gleaming refurbished alloys, back and front bumpers, I thought thank god its finished, right up till my water pump bearings went on the way home!! How difficult is this job to do? Has anyone here done it before? are there any bits to watch out for ie siezed parts?

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
I have heard that the impellers are plastic and can become brittle with age.

The impeller is what drives the water around, the newer replacements are now made in alli.

What is wrong with yours

If I am honest with you in my opinion, these are one of the tougher merc water pumps to do.

My 124 water pump went in the middle of Stockholm,,so that saved me the job of a DIY back in 1991, and that cost me all of £150 back then including picking up the car

I love your comment television "a nice little how to thread" !! Yeah its nice because he's missed out the several thousand steps I had to go through today, knees on ice, and hands caked in 21 years of crap. fails to mention the removal of the radiator, the power steering pump, the three quarter mile aux belt, the tensioner brace, and the tension shock!! and how he managed to get the fourth bolt out! I shall hunt him down!! I'm begining to regret starting this job !

Your Mercedes
E320 Coupe 95
On my 124 320 coupe auto it is rated at 6 hours.

You would not want to be doing that again in a hurry so PLEASE only use a genuine Mercedes water pump.

It will last another 15 years, and only use the proper Mercedes ph neutral coolant to ensure long life in the other parts of the cooling circuit also ie. radiator, duo valves, etc etc etc.
