W124 E300D SRS light mind of it's own

my E300D's SRS warning light is coming on seemingly randomly after around 1-2hrs driving (seems to prefer motorway speeds). It'll come on for a couple of secs, then maybe a second. One trip it came on around 6-8 times, last long trip only once. Any ideas?

(my steering lock is not working properly and I'm wondering if the car had work done to the wheel in the past which may be affecting the airbag?)

I should pop into a MB dealer and let them rummage around in the diagnositc thingy. it may have registered a fault. they shouldn't charge for this. or find an independant and give them a ring first to be on the safe side.

I am not much help as i am not technical but thats what i would do. my srs came on permenant and it needed 2 new airbag units and steering column sensor change before it went away. mind you it is only 3 months old

It is most likely to be the contact brushes between steering wheel and steering column, remove the wheel, turn over and clean up the brass rings with some t cut, very lightly smear with vaseline and refit.

I had same problem with mine (w124 E220 1994), there is some wires under the driver seat to do with the seat belt tension and SRS, check the connection (white thingi like a plug) make sure all wires are of a good contact.
