I bought one of these the other day from a mercedes main dealer. They looked it up on their computer after entering my vehicle chassis no and assured me that I did have a filter fitted, and that it was an easy jobbie just in the scuttle area, and that I didn't need to remove the wiper mechanism.
The thing is, I can't find any filter in the scuttle area. There is no record in the service history or pile of receipts of it ever having been changed, so I'm thinking that maybe I don't have one after all.
Can anyone shed some light? The car chassis no. is 124 066 2C 175 148 0, engine no. is 104 992 22 067753. It's a 1995 Cabriolet.
The Dust filter part no. on the BOX is 124 830 01 18, but the nos. on the TWO identical filters themselves are different - 124 835 00 47. The two filters are about 15 inches long and 2 inches wide and half an inch deep. The elements are like pleated thick white paper
Should I have a filter or not, and if so, where is it located?

Thanks, David

Dust filter

Well thanks chaps. No sign of it in the passenger footwell - I think that is true of later models. I'm sure that it's where George says. Both the TWO filters I have are just like the ONE filter item 242 shown on the Detali diagram. The part number of part 242 in the diagram matches the part number on the box, but NOT the part number on the two filters themselves.
Maybe MB have changed the part number, but why still sell them in the old box? Maybe they're not the right filters, and have been put in that box in error, but they do look right.
And why are there two filters, not one? Very odd.
Do you think that I can get at it without removing the wiper mechanism?
Thanks again, David

If you have them, they are accessed from under the wiper area with bonnet up in max position.

No need to remove wiper assembly but you do need to dismantle the drain rubbers and grid.

The well hidden 124 dust filter

Thanks David
(BTW did you ever get a pm I sent you a while back about getting construction and operating details for an LED fault code reader?)
I just had a quick look at the scuttle area again and it looks a bit complicated - more than a few minutes work anyway. Lots of plastic bits to snap out and tricky looking clips and screws to undo to get all that central cover off. A job for the weekend I think.
It sounds like you think that I may well get in there and that find no filter is fitted!
Has anyone done this job recently and any tips? And anyone know why I got 2 filters with a different part no. on them to that which it should be, yet that no. on the box is the right no.?
Cheers, David

Blower Fan

Hi George,
I put a thread on about my blower fan packing up yesterday, i ve looked at the info you posted to the chap over the pollen filters which is helpful, but is the blower fan accessible from the nearside footwell ?

Many Thanks

Just one point I should have mentioned Tony.If you remove the wiper arm be sure to cover the screen underneath with thick cardboard or similar as the spring is very strong and the arm can click down suddenly when released and crack the screen.
