W124 E320 Coupe Engine tapping/rattling

Help!, started her up this morning and moved her about 5o yards, all fine. I have just been out to her and started her up. Started ok but was missing, smell of petrol and some dark smoke out of the exhaust, then the engine started to rattle as I moved backwards, so I immediately switche her of. The car was facing up hill when I started her up and is now facing down hill. Checked the oil level in the down hill position and it was at the top of the bottom red indicator. I have topped up the oil, it sounds a little better, but there is a rattleing/tappit type noice which lessens when you rev to 2000 rpm. I dont want to start her any more. There also looks like some oil at the bottom of the engine tray. Mileage is 88K with FSH. Any ideas? Many thanks:cry:

Might be just a few the hydraulic tappets not getting oil,due to oilways being partially blocked
Happens a lot on my e 220 if car only used for short journeys. Soon clears one warmed up after a long run.
unless you have a major oil leak of course
