My dad bought a M Reg E320 Coupe 6 weeks ago, Nice car etc but for the last 6 weeks hes had problems with the car starting. I researched the dreaded alarm faults here and assumed it would be that.
Anyway took a drive over to see the relics and try to sort out the none starting problem, this was the problem, engine would crank on the key but not fire into life, fuel pump was priming ok just no spark.
I removed the battery, removed the fuel pump relay and the voltage protection relay, I cleaned the pins on both with wire wool and checked the fuse in the voltage relay, put it all back together and refitted the battery, no change, car still cranked on the key but no start.
Had a think for a minute and then removed the voltage relay with the battery still connected, replaced the relay turned the key and the merc started first time, I think spiking the relay with the battery connected did the trick.
I have ordered a new relay from eurocarparts £40 quidish and will fit that later.
Just thought this might be of help to someone with a similar problem.
