Hello All,
Im new to the Forum.
Purchased a 93 200TE Estate in white. Fantastic Condition. S/H up until 146k (its done 147k) Anyway, a couple of problems with the electrics.

It came with no radio, so fitted a cd player from my previous car, and now the ABS light has come on. I took the radio out and 3 hours later I came to start it and the lights out. Any ideas? I hears it comes on when the 12v drops but I cant see why a radio would make that difference.
It has been fitted with a another fan, infront of the main one, which has a switch, any particular reason why? It runs at under half way.

And last one, the dash lights are out and the centre console, now before I remove the cluster what fuse should I have handy to replace it with? I dont want to remove it, to find its a different type that I have to drive to a Merc garage to buy. Id prefer to buy the fuse and then remove.

Cheers

Everyone should have a Merc in there life. I love it.

James

There's a fuse in the dash, at the back

which does all the panel and switch illumination. You need to pull the instrument cluster to get at it. You might need to disconnect the speedo drive to get it right out, or you may be able to get at it w/out doing so. Search on here for 124 dashboard or instrument lights and see what comes up.
re the ABS light, maybe your battery is not up to snuff, and can't handle the current drain from the radio (internal timekeeping, memory functions etc). I think it would be well-goosed if a radio put it on the blink, so have it tested. I'm more likely to suspect some iffy wiring causing a current drain. check your wiring again and make sure you haven't shorted anything out or cross-wired something ( no insult intended)
Welcome aboard btw

The 124 dash lights are on a dimmer, just turn the LH button (the one you push to zero the trip milage) in the instrument cluster fully CCW, a common problem.
