I'm thinking of buying a late W124 E300D auto estate and would like advice on a couple of points from those who've owned one......is the fuel consumption noticeably higher than the equivalent saloon (in unloaded condition) and is there any form of load cover supplied or available for the estate?

I believe the retractable load cover is standard. If the car doesn't have one most likely it'll be in a previous owner's garage - the unit is removeable. They turn up on eBay from time to time but they're heavy so would be expensive to ship

The cars will do 32-34 mpg for most drivers and more if you cruise at 50-60. I can't think the saloon would be any different
