Thank you Nick,,this does make a very useful link to direct people to.

I like that you added the bit about the plastic side panels being expensive, £1200 plus the paint £100 in 1990 I still have my bank details, no drilling though they used the existing holes.

Anything that I find I will pass over to you, but I cant think that there could be much more, the list is so comprehensive

Hi Nick,, I would have said that the 5 speed gear box did not come until around 1992 where it was an option on the multi valve engined cars, I have some price list around some where for that year, and I will do my best to find them for you, I did put them up on the forum way back in 2005-6

Malcolm

I think we've established it was available from 1989. Someone had a 1990 5-speed, anyway

Thinking about it, it seems logical for the 5-speed to appear at the same time as the 300-24 engine and that combo was used in the R129 as well as the W124

Of course the 300-24 predates the all-electronic AFM engines so the 5-speed control system either changed or was piggy-backed onto the later cars. The reports that the 5-speed cars have a speed sensor in the speedo suggests the latter to me

I have had a look at all the documents that I have and there was a mod on the 5 speed box in 07-91 that more or less puts it into the first 6 cylinder engined cars, and as the 89 car was for 1990 then you are spot on as usual, and thats all that matters.
Thank you Nick:D

Here's a question: was the 5-speed auto ever offered with an M103 engine? In other words, are there any 300E/TEs out there with a 5-speed auto?

I've never seen one and I have a suspicion that it was only ever seen on 300-24s and the other M104-engine cars

Anyone ever had a 5-speed auto 300?

On the work shop manuals I scanned the applications and mods and only the 104 and 111 engines applied, and they did stress only on the 300- 24 engine.

I can remember when I had my 1990 300TE and came back to the UK in it during 1992, and my sister in law had a 300-24 TE on loan and that had a 5 speed box and was a beautiful car.

I will check the Auto data over the week end and see whats on there.

I have a Oct 1994 S class and 129 price list here.

A 5 speed chargeable option was on the S280 and 320 and not on the 420 and 500. The 5 speed was standard on the 280 limmo. The S class coupes did not have the option and it was not fitted.

On the SL it was a standard fit for the 280 and an option on the 320 at £747 Thats all in 10-1994

See what else i can come up with
