Help :)

whilst attempting to remove the rear accumulators on our 1989 230TE I've run in to a weird problem,

what size spanner do I need to undo the smaller of the unions?

the large one disconnected easily with a 10mm hex key but the smaller ones which feed from the levelling unit attached to the anti roll bar have got me baffled.

None of the metric spanners seem to fit - 9mm too small, 10mm too big
none of my brake spanners will fit - 3/8ths too small 7/16ths too big

anybody got any ideas which size I should be using.

I note that the CD manual specifies tool no 116 589 00 17 00 - I don't have access to that tool can anyone tell me what size that is?

TIA

Andy,

Hmmm...does sound weird - if 9 and 10 metric don't fit and neither do SAE, then what else can fit ?

However, you can undo that smaller union nut using an of adjustable plumbing wrench - or even standard pliers.

Alternatively, you can buy the specific tool 116 589 00 17 00 from your local MB dealership parts section - just give the tool part no and they'll supply it.

cheers for the replay Talbir, turns out after much swearing and cursing that the unions had corroded - so they really were no size at all - should have been 11mm I'm guessing - so the specialist tool wouldn't have done the job either - sadly no room to get a plumbing wrench in - well, not withotu removing the drive shafts so a less subtle approch was called for - yep, the big chisel :)

Ordered a couple of new pipes from the dealer - for the sake of the £10 they cost it wasn't worth wasting any more time and energy on and I may as well replce the lot whilst I'm doing the job :)
