W124 Estate Rear door Speaker Grilles

Hi

Has anyone 'refurbished' the speaker grilles that form part of the arm rests on the rear doors?

The ones on mine have started to lose their colour and turn silver in the middles, due to wear over the years.

Not sure if spraying them black is the way to go, as obviously do not want to block the holes.

Is the only option to replace with new ones (if available)?

Remove it, give it a quick going over with a clean toothbrush then give it a couple of very light dustings with an aerosol of matt paint. Keep dusting it with paint till it's an even colour then refit

Works like a charm!
