My 1992 230TE Estate needs a new exhaust section.

Originally it had a Cat but it looks like when this failed the last owner has had a non-cat system fitted and then had the oxygen sensor (which Cat supplied cars have) tapped into the standard exhaust. This was presumably to save the cost of the Cat.

This has worked fine for the 2 yrs I have had the car as 92J reg cars do not get tested for the Cat at the MOT.

However the "bodged" section is rusted through and needs replacing. Currently no-one locally is willing to do another "bodge" as they say it will make the engine run hot or some nonsense and a section with a Cat is £400 for a regular or £700 for an original part.

Has anyone got any good ideas on how I can get round this issue at reasonable cost. I am located in Fleet, Hants

Thx

ive done a few of theese, fitting a genuine section for a non cat vehicle and putting the boss in for the lambda sensor, no one has complained yet, increased fuel economy, more power and a cheaper exhaust part, the genuine non cat section is twice as thick as the mickey mouse sections but the dealer will ask you for a chassis no. yo will have to get him to use his immagination
