Looking for some help......if I want to replace the bushes in my front suspension, do I go for standard rubber replacement bushes or Polyurethane?.

If its the latter, has anybody had experience of them and what were the benefits and were there any down sides?

Lastly if Polyurethane is the way to go, where do I purchase them?

Cheers

my only experience of alternative bushes is the neoprene ones and they were fitted to a VW beetle and a Triumph GT6 I used to race. Ok, the suspension is a whole lot more responsive but ride quality is seriously impaired.

Personally I'd stay with rubber ones for the suspension on a road car. with maybe some harder ones for the anti roll bar.

I've fitted polyurethane bushes to my Range Rover and it does tighen up the suspension very much. The bushes do last much longer also (50k compared to 10-20k miles). Future changing of bushes is much easier due to the bushes coming in two halves with a single internal steel tube - no outer ring - therefore, not requiring an industrial press to push them in.

On the downside, the components to which the bushes are fitted to are put under additional stress. On Range Rovers when used off road, radius arms (locating the axles to the chasis) have been known in some circumstances to fail. Also the panhard rod bush fails much quicker than the rubber bush for some reason.

Perhaps Ron Dennis would know?
