Cannot get either the convertible top to go down or the roll bar ('tomb-stones') to rise at the moment. Both controlling switches flash red as they should but refuse to do anything when pushed.

Assume (hope) it's just a fuse, but am struggling to locate it.

Did read somewhere that there's a fuse block somewhere near the right wheel housing where the top's hydraulic unit is also to be found.

Can someone please advise from where you access this - i.e. under back seat; within the boot (trunk); under the car?

Regards,
Neil

Don't know about the W124, but the other softops have them in the boot.

Flashing light often means a weak battery, even if the engine is running. Failing that, it could be one the front sensors.

But the first thing I would do, is do a window reset. After a power loss, the windows somtimes lose their memory.

Hold down side of button down for a few seconds after window opens fully
Hold up side of button down for a few seconds after wind is closed fully
Repeat with passenger window

This should be done every time there is a power cut (battery removal/replacement)

Pascal,
The buttons you are referring to are the 4 individual window switches aren't they? Not quite sure of the connection between window memory (what's being remembered?) and soft-top function, but will give it a go.

Also when you say that the other models have the fuse in the boot - can you be a bit more precise.

Just to clarify:

The soft-top control button lights up a constant red once the 2 roof levers are pulled down, while the tombstone reminder/warning light on the dashboard flashes red when the key is turned to 'on'. Both of these are as per normal.

When you pull the soft-top switch backwards, the 4 windows go down first as expected but then nothing! Push the soft-top switch back up and again all 4 windows get raised.

Sorry neil, I thought that you meant the switch was flashing while held in the open position. Regarding window reset, if widow computer is not set, roof computer detects a fault from it, and will not perform.

In the SL (rhd) the fuses are on the right side of the boot (trunk) ner the top.

The hyraulics are under the spare wheel. I think that this is consistant with the SLK also

Fuses located

From another forum I was told to look just in front of the battery where I found 2 fuse holders that I've never noticed before - both hidden under black plastic covers:

The larger one contains 2 regular type fuses - both mine are the white type (8a?) and un-broken. These I'm told are for the soft top control unit and roll over bar.

The smaller holder contains a fuse in the form of a thick metal strip screwed in place (30a?). Visually it looked fine, but once I pressed it with my finger I realised it was neatly split in two. This I understand to be for the actual hydraulic unit.

Presume both the soft-top and roll bar are driven from the same hydraulic unit. Will get a new fuse and see if that solves things.

Cheers,

If you read through a lot of forums here, yo will see how often fuses on older MBs fail/crack/corode with age.

Solution: Spray all contacts with contact cleaner, and replace all fuses.

BTW, glad you got it sorted
