Hi,

I recently found a nice chrome grille on eBay for a pre-93 W124.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10398&item=4528849541&rd=1

I ordered the grille and after a long wait, and me thinking it would never arrive, it turned up this morning . . haven't had a chance to fit it yet, but I was impressed by the quality of the construction. The entire grille appears to be made from some sort of alloy rather than plastic.
At just over £30 I think it was well worth it . . hopefully I haven't spoken too soon . . no doubt now that I am so happy, it won't fit the car!

Will update you on my progress, and if I can find that digi camera, I might try to post a pic.

I retract my previous statement

Just realised that I must have been half asleep when I submitted my previous post . . the revalation that the whole grille is made of alloy was nonsense . . it was just me! And also the fact thats its freezing outside . . made the whole grille feel very cold (almost like metal) when I opened up the packaging . .

Just thought I correct my mistake there . .

All fitted

Well I managed to fit the grille . . despite the snow thats been coming down at this end of town.

It was much easier to put the new one in, than to take out the old one.

Total time was about 30mins. Quite a straight forward process.

I'm very happy with the result. The car looks a lot better from the front. I've been considering this mod for a while, but couldn't justify spending over £100 on a grille insert. When I saw it at only a 3rd of that I snapped it up.

Will endevour to post pics when I get the chance . . right now its snowing away out there so not the ideal conditions to show of my new mod )

Fitted a same looking grille (black with chrome, hard plastic) on my 230CE when I bought it this summer), and I must say it made a nice difference!! It´s also not "too much", but just right for to keep the nice Mercedes look. Please, post some pics when the snow has gone by! Happy driving!! =)
