I would be grateful if anyone can help. Car is W124 300TD 1995.
Original problem was washer spray working OK, wipers not working.
Cleaned & checked system as below.
Afterwards, a new problem! When I turn on head lights, washer fluid sprays continuously even though wiper button / washer not pressed. Only time washer does not spray is when near side parking light on. Offside parking light causes loss of washer fluid. Only way to stop problem is to unplug connection between headlamp and headlamp washer motor on offside.
I have:
(1) Checked fuses 2 and 3 (both OK)
(2) Checked relay (no obvious faults - looks good inside)
(3) Cleaned all contacts
(4) I have removed offside headlamp unit, removed headlamp wash wipe motor and cleaned it. Wash wipe motor unit was wet inside (although packed with grease). I dried this out. Reassembly was difficult, (especially relocating a small blue gear unit between larger cogs and worm drives, but I think I got it back together correctly). One small square of bright metal fell out (about 8mm x 8mm x waifer thin, and I do not know where this came from). This may be a problem - anybody taken one of wiper motors apart and know where it goes!
Can anybody suggest what is wrong? Suspect problem is with offside unit somewhere. have no spare relay to test relay.
I know that there have been several posts on this topic, with several members having problems at present, but there seem to be no solutions.
I look forward to any comments. Failing a solution, I will remove the whole system and buy new sub headlight panels and spray to match car and be done with. Wasted too much time and expensive washer fluid on this. Wiper motors seem to be placed in a vulnerable position and wet and dirt probably gives them a short life.
Thanks
John
