I left my '94 E320 out in snow and sub zero temperatures up on Exmoor, and since then the heater has only worked internittently (no hot air, fan and vents blowing fine). When I first started her up, a belt at the front of the engine bay was very noisy and there was a burning smell. This settled on its own and the car is riunning fine.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Tom

could be a sticking duo valve, do you have antifreeze ...enough of.. in the rad.. its possible the water pump was frozen causing the belt burn..

If you get stuck please ask,,they normally fail in the hot mode

If you have the pump 140 in that link,do make sure that its running

At the risk of this turning into a browser forum......

I have downloaded firefox and tried to access the link this way, but still no joy. Not sure what the scroll down function is in Firefox as never really used it.

I will go and have a play with Firefox - I will work it out!!

Thanks for the support.

With fire fox you have the scroll button on the right, the same as Windows IE just use the wheel on the mouse of drag the cursor down.

The advantage of firfox is that it remembers all of your pages, when I turn off at night I do not need to close anything down, when I start up in the morning, it opens up the same pages where I was working on

Hi,
Try disabling your PC's firewall temporarily, if this works then either lower the settings in it, or click allow this site.

I found a duovalve on ebay and spent this weekend taking the skin off my knuckles fitting it. Unfortunately this has not fixed the problem:(

Any other ideas??

It is a 12volt in line pump that must run when the heater is on, it feeds the duo valve

OK, so humour me here - I am very stupid when it comes to car mechanics (some would say my stupidity is not only limited to car mechanics, but that is another story....)

Where exactly does the pump sit?

I presume it will be connected upstream of the feeding hoses that I had to remove to change the duovalve assembly, so if I follow the hoses back I should locate the pump. Does this make sense?

If I find it, should it be obvious if it is running or not when the engine is on and heater is on?

Thanks

Tom

Water should pour out of it with the output hose off, but you should hear it running using a home made stethoscope,

It was all in the link that you cannot open,,and thats a shame

Update on the heater problems:

The heater was still working intermittently after changing the duovalve and so I finally took it a local Indy. He bled air out of the system and all is fixed! Pump must be OK.

I also had a recurring problem with stop/ tail lights blowing, and then my cruise control stopped working. He diagnosed wrong specification bulbs. Once changed, the cruise control started working again and no more blown bulbs. The man is a genius.......

Charged me £50 for the whole lot - pretty good value I reckon.

'Bavarian Motors' is who I used for any of you based in or around Bristol.
