I am considering getting my 10 yr old W124 7 seater re-upholstered in leather (on the basis that i will keep it for another 5 years at least).

Has any one done this and can report back on how successful it was?
for example
- was it in keeping with the rest of the car or did it look odd?
- was the quality of work as good as MB leather?
- how much did it cost and who did it for you.

thanks
Keith

Leather

Hi Keith, I retrimmed a 99 E Class estate in grey leather to replace the crap light grey cloth, I bought the ready made kit from a firm in Warrington, found them on the net, the quality was better than Merc leather being softer and a matt finish I also had it rouched and black piping, the kit cost £650 and I fitted it myself time consuming but not rocket science, as you remove the old covers you can see how the new ones fit, to have it fitted would have been another £600 by a local trimmer, hope this is some help, Steve

You could also just keep your eyes open on ebay as they do come up now and again.

I got the entire interior for my CE off ebay. :)

I went from slightly shabby creme cloth

To red leather (which has strangely grown on me) and feels very classic car like. I got the entire interior including door cards, dashbord, carpets seats etc for ..... £50

Ebay

Spike
Looks a good job

have tried ebay with no luck so far. Mind you i am looking for a W124 7 seater interior which will be very popular with 5 and 7 seat wagons so I dont rate my prospects of finding one.

Did you get the complete seats or just the covers and did you have to travel far?

I got a complete interior with no visible wear :) Reasonably local too but I did have to hire a van to get it all in.

Since it was a complete colour change, the whole interior had to be stripped to the shell so as to facilitate the dash change and carpets etc. A little daunting at first but not terribly hard to do if you do it in a methodical fashion.

You might find it cheaper to buy a donor car, with bad bodywork or something, swap the interior over and then sell it on again.

A complete leather interior in good nick from a breakers prolly wont leave much change from £1k IMO.

errrr, Spike, yes you did on the post with pics; no matter, just assuming it was slightly pricier than this ?

Does the red grow on you? it'd have to on me. good contrast with green though :)

Spaceship crashes into Jersalem slum, our hero Brian clambers out of wreckage looking bewildered: camp onlooker:

"ohhhh, you lucky baarstard; 50 quid for all that ?"

(this risks getting moved to chat area.., quick, talk about cars n stuff)

yeah, ayway, the reversing spindle actuator splines on the forward rotavating pre nozzle injector pump housing were worn to nowt so I replaced them for a tenner and she's running sweet now.
