Hi Guys

First post and a bit nervous.

I have a 1989 300E which I have had for a couple of months and it is a cracking car but it came with a few minor faults one of which is the central locking and I hope you guys can help.

I can lock/unlock all the doors from the drivers side and the boot but I cannot do the same with the passenger side. Is this normal?

Thanks

I agree with Mike. That is if the key is turning. Sometimes they get oxidised as they are not used too much.
hope this helps

Thanks for that.

The key is turning and I can lock the passenger door with it. I guess I will have to remove the door to get the offending item.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not sure about if and when they introduced it on the 124's, but I do remember from my W123 days that the central locking didn't work from the passenger side. If it works fine, and locks and unlocks from the central locking, and the N/S lock works on the N/S door but just doesn't activate the central locking, my suspicion is that its built that way. I'm sure an owner of a similar age 124 will correct me.

My 300TE 1988 reg only locked/unlocked all the doors from the drivers door. The key lock/unlock facility on the passenger door is only for convenience.

There is no central locking activation from the passenger door.

The central locking on my 300d passenger door works sometimes and does'nt at other times. This also happens with the remote alarm. But it always seems to work with the key on the drivers side so i dont think its the sender.i just think its a ghost

W124 central locking

My '93 w124 does central-lock from the passenger door (I had to try it as I've never used the keys for it!). I can't remember if my '89 did, again I used the remote all the time.

Lockin probs

Not 2 technically minded but i had the same problem on my 300e on the drivers side. Easy to sort, take of the panel and plastic cover of the door trim and you may find there is a metal link rod that has come away from its housing. This should clip back in and depending if any bits have broken off it should sort it. Easy job!

There is an electrical contact in each door lock, and the boot lock, that activates the central locking pump. The pump locks/unlocks all the doors apart from the lock you have the key in.

There is a three wire plug that attaches to the pump, one wire from each lock.

Any leak in a vacuum pipe and none of the locks would work (apart from the one the key is in). The same applies if the pump has failed.

When you turn the key one way, the lock connects the signal wire to 0V, when you turn it the other way, it's connected to 12V. This causes the pump to suck or blow.

Both my cars lock from all locks. I had problems with the 230TE when I got it and had to replace the pump. It still doesn't lock from the drivers door though.
