W124 outside temperature

Having had the sender changed on my diesel estate, i still have the problem of intermittent and erratic display on the dash. My dealer says i have to change the display screen on the dash which is fine except he wants about £350 quid for one which seems to compare unfavourably with an lcd colour telly!
Anyone got any experience of these or know of a cheaper supply/solution?

We have not had this on a 124 before, it would be easy to buy a cluster from a scrappy and change the temp gauge display over
