Morning everyone - I am just in the process of completing all the the major service items on my 92, 230TE Estate. I would like to change the steering fluid as it looks discoloured and old, the fluids viscosity is also up for question. Is this a difficult task ?

Not easy, the majority of the fluid is in the box and there aint no drain plug.
Try removing the return pipe from the pump, that will empty the reservoir and moving the steering will get a bit more of it out, the only complete way will be to dismantle the lot! changing part of the fluid regularly will dilute the old stuff as an alternative to all that trouble.
There is a filter in the bottom of the reservoir that you could/should change.

Thank you wireman - Mad Summer for me so hence late reply

I changed part of the fluid as you suggested and cleaned the seal with no major difference, however, when I changed the filter inside the reservoir a noticeable change accured the steering become smother and more balanced.
