My dealership  suggests that I look for a  Prop shaft rubber coupling because a new one can only be supplied for a 1989 W124 250TD with prop shaft at around £400.  I have been warned to expect increased vribration which can be solved by fitting a new rear coupling.  Can anyone suggest a source  without having to purchase the prop shaft?
Thank you

The front coupling just snapped on mine, so i had to replace the front, the centre bearing went and I got the back coupling replaced to. Oh and the Uv joint had gone so it was a total propshaft job. Merc quoted me £455+vat for the part, for mine the bits cost £140. I think you can get the rubber couplings new from euro carparts or german swedish and french, i think they do propshafts as well. I got my bits from DAMAS near sheffield, theyre a specialist breaker.01246 822939

Many thanks for the replies regarding the rear prop shaft rubber couplings.  I have contacted the Garage, and will also try the other sources for these parts.

W124 Prop shaft rubber coupling

Hi John,

The coupling you are refering to is the front one I ASSUME. They are available from the dealers. But its a long winded way to get it. Any way. What you need to do is remove the coupling. Make a stencil of it. Making sure all the holes are drawn in the correct places. If you phone my dealer. Draytons of Wolverhampton. Speak to Ash. Double check if they have the items in stock. And fax through a copy of the stencil so they can make sure its the right one. There are only a couple of different types. Phone number 01902 427897.

Thanks for the information Andy.  Further advice from my dealer clarifies that it is the rubber dmaper behind the coupling that is at fault (it has split) rather than the coupling itself, so this is what I am now looking to replace.

John
