My new 230 te as a pin hole leak at the top edge of the radiator. Has anyone got ideas on a quick fix repair until I can get a radiator for it?

The spray of water is quite fine, like a small water pistol. Can rad weld fix something like that?? Or can I seal from the outside with soemthing?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Is it in the matrix or the header tank.

The old trick used to be crack an Egg into the rad, "it works", but these days I would buy a tin of Wynn's radweld. That will stop the leak untill you can get a repair or replacement

I would try to avoid the Radweld route it tends to clog up your radiator as well as the leak, if you can get at the leak from outside ie it's not deep in the matrix get some Quicksteel from Halfords looks like grey plastacine about cigar size, you break enough off kneed it in your hands till you feel it getting warm (chemical reaction) then apply it to the leak and allow to dry (not long). It will work whilst water is still present bur easier if dry. Used to have it supplied as freebies when I was working for the AA. ;)

Had a similar water spray from one of the lower tubes in the front row of my
124/250D when i cut up the old rad to see what the other tubes looked like almost all of them were corroded heavily from the outside presumably salt damage.
Euro parts sold me a rad for £86 which took about 40 mins to fit. Seems to me to be a better repair than some sticky stuff that may fail catastrophicaly at any time however good the stuff is when applied to clean materials under good conditions.

I think those very fine leaks on older W124 radiators are quite common. You may be able to seal them but IMHO you'll always be better off with a new radiator as it won't be full of sludge & corrosion like the old one

When I had my SAAB air con re charged the guy pointed the dead insects in the matrix that can cause rot, he recomended that it is lightly hosed down, now and then.

I also posted info on rads some while back where rads were rotting through because they were not grounded (earthed) any green or blue stains are an indication of this
