I have just bought a spare remote lock / alarm fob for my 1994 W124 Estate.

It's the Scorpion 2 button alarm fob with red LED, identical to my existing one.

Does anyone know how to programme a new fob in to the existing alarm system (which is the same Scorpion system) or will it require a trip to Mercedes or an alarm specialist?

I did the same on my previous W210 and that was just a sequence of switching ignition on / off and pressing remote switch -I hope it's similar for this one, or have I just spent a few quid on junk!

im looking to do the same but i want to upgrade to a modern fob like the SA971. do you know if i can do this. i also thought that you get the fob already set up to your alarm, thats why they need the number from inside the fob

I am afraid the only solution with the Scorpion alarm fob you describe (black, two button, slider on right) is to send both the new fob, and, unfortunately, the main alarm unit from the car to Scorpion for re-programming. You cannot simply re programme these old fobs, unlike the new ones. I have been through this with them. It costs about £36, but of course you also have the costs of disconnecting , removing and sending your main alarm unit (and refitting it!) which really makes the whole procedure uneconomic. Scorpion were very helpful (go to http://www.scorpionauto.com/keyfobs.htm, and contact a guy called Tony for confirmation and advice rather than listen to me) and were quite happy to do the job, but were definite that fobs of this vintage were not re programmable 'at home'.

Contacted Tony you were spot on, although he quoted me £34. I just opened the remoted and swited over the insides, the reason i wanted new remotes was because the old one were very worn ans the buttons were problematic.
Seems a shame but i threw away the brand new electronics.
Thanks for info

That's a really good idea - buy a new remote and swop the guts of an old one into it

I hope your not being sarcastic.....2 remotes for 12 pounds including postage, well worth it IMHO
