I appreciate this has come up time & again, but the most relevant old thread I found on search is locked.

I bought some 100/80W headlight bulbs the other day & popped them in carefully (without touching the glass). All seemed well yesterday on a brief check in the daytime, but today driving home in the dark I've lost high-beam on the offside headlight & the orange dash light is on.

Have I popped something in the wiring/fuse, or is it likely a duff bulb please? I appreciate these bulbs are higher rated than standard, but they're not excessively bright & I thought I was okay with 100w draw?

Thanks in advance.

I ran a 124 300TE with 100w bulbs, but it does mean that the warning lamp stays on

Are there fuses for the lights ??? I have a feeling that there are, not unknown for a new bulb to fail though

There are fuses Malcolm

I considered whether they needed uprating for the higher wattage bulbs, but decided not necessary on the simple calculations I can still manage. W=VI and V=IR and all that.

I did have one brand new bulb blow a hole in itself within half an hour, and had a lengthy chat with the shop assistant as to why it couldn't be faulty electrics ( the whole carful of bulbs would have fried) but it had to be faulty bulb. The manager agreed.

aye poor connection is often the cause , somebody in there wisdom on my right rear lights snapped a contact for the earth on the reverse light bulb holder so they soldered a wire to the bulb and earthed it to the chassis , this is giving a duff voltage reading on my sensor so the lights permenantly on , im going to source some replacement panels asap to sort this bodge fix out!
