Hi Guys
I really like an external temperature gauge, such as that fitted to my Wife's 211. I know that this was an option on the 124 and mine has the blank in the instrument panel. Question-If I can get hold of the parts, is retrofit an option? I do know that sometimes in such cars the wiring is present in the whole range and all one needs is the gauge and sensor-anyone know if this is the case here?
Many thanks.

John there is no retro fit for this, and iots a complicated thing to try and put in, its also coupled up to the speed sensors, and that makes it harder still

Not listed on the Russian site so I don't think so.

If you already have the window for a temperature gauge in the temperature/fuel gauge dial then it is likely the cluster is set up for its installation, that is the position with my W202, worth checking out with the dealer armed with your VIN number.

My W202 doesn’t have a temperature gauge fitted as standard but I think, like yourself, that what I really wanted was something to fill the vacant window, I opted to fit something more useful, I put in a volt meter from Halfords
Not strictly accurate as there is only a reading when the key is turned to position 1 (or 2) as a tiny amount of power is being used from the battery, but I now know, with a reasonable degree of accuracy what the condition of the battery is when the ignition key is turned to position 1.
The 3 Green LEDs indicate that the alternator is charging the battery normally while the engine is running. More than 2 Red LEDs indicate that the battery is in poor condition, very useful in this cold weather.

That looks really nice Dec-great idea. I might have a look in Halfrauds, but I can't say I have seen those strip type gauges in there ?

The other displays that can be bought are time lapse meters, a little digital display that tells you how long you have been driving

Genius really, you’re too kind, that would put me in a class with Leonardo da Vinci.
Re the volt meter, I don’t see them in Halfords now, about a year ago I bough one of the type with proper digits that plug into the cigar lighter but it wouldn’t fit in the space in the cluster so I went back and got that one pictured which was a good fit, it involved some “plastic surgery”. All that I can remember is that it was a Carmate, made in China, cost well under a tener.
