Hi again,

My 230TE (1989 153K) has a very slight hesitation when pulling away from rest and after every gear change. I'll show my age now, but it's similar to not having oil in an SU carb dashpot or a faulty accelerator pump. Not a major problem as everything else is fine, mpg, acceleration etc still spot on. It just makes for rather jerky driving and rather spoils the merc experience.

Any ideas, preferably cost free ones?

possibly carbon on the valves

soaking up the intial burst of fuel. What do your plugs look like. Or fouled plugs. I just thought I'd show my age with the carbon thing.

I have been thinking about this one for some time, I had a 107 in the other day for a similar fault, by carefull re setting of the CO level I solved that one. the adjustment is critical and should really be done with a CO meter.
Under the air filter you have the air flow sensor and mixture control unit, there is a stand pipe in between the two with a hole in the top that takes a small allen key, this screw is sprung loaded and care must be taken. gently press the allen key down into the screw and no further presure applied so as to open the air flow sensor, I think it will need a fraction of a turn clockwise to enrich the mixture. Do note the possition of the screw or top of key before you start, I stress it only needs a fraction of a turn, a quarter of a turn will stop the engine.
Sorry I do not have the size of the allen key, before you start, leave the engine turned off and find a key, you will feel the sprung screw, gently rotate it until it engages into th head and leave it there and start the engine.

Thanks television, I'll try what you suggest in the morning.
Assuming that is that I can bend over. Put my back out today picking up a cup of coffee! Age is a great thing isn't it.

You want to try and get out of the SL after a 200 mile trip, age is wonderful.
