Hi Guys,

Still having problems with my E300 W124, it begins to cut out when warm. Last week I had the Dizzy cap cleaned as it was very dirty and it had moisture inside. After It started first go and now after 1/2 miles begins to "jerk".

Can this still be the problem Dizzy cap and Rotor arm needs to be changed? does this sound like symptoms of a dizzy and Rotor arm problem?

Regards

Rotor arms can and do fail either the insulation fails to allow the sparks to dissapear to earth or the internal suppressor (if its fitted) can go open circuit and not allow them through. Distributor caps also suffer insulation problems, if they are of any great age replace them both.

Verify that water is not getting inside the distributor, whilst its in bits take a good look at any cable entry seals or the like since it should always be snuff dry inside there.

Thanks Wireman, Yes I as told that there was some water inside (could be from the seal or lack of it) also was told they both looked pretty old. So I guess I should replace them both.

Would this happen when the car is warm because from cold it runs fine?

If water is getting into the dizzy body it will evaporate as the engine warms so it will play up when it gets hot, check that any drainage holes are clear and make sure that water can't run in. Do not attempt to seal the dizzy completely or any water will stay in there and give trouble.

Get the engine good and hot before you dismantle the dizzy next time, leave it open for a good while this will help any trapped water dry out.

I have experienced similar intermittent faults caused by the crankshaft sensor on later bosch systems and with the hall sensor in the dizzy on older systems, maybe you have a fault outside the dizzy.

Thanks, I'll try that I'm pretty sure it's the Dizzy and Rotor. 2 weeks ago it wouldn't even start then after a good clean it started 1st go. Now it plays up when warm.
