morning all,
Im new here as a new owner of a W124 260e. I think i reckonise a few names off pistonheads but thats by the by.
my car seems run at the right temp, heater gets hot in about the sort of time id expect it too & stays at a constant temp but the gauge never shows over 50c. id like to check the sensor but as yet ive not found it! ive got to be missing something obvious but im used to fords/vauxhalls/mgs & bikes rather than mercs.
also my oil pressure gauge always reads just over 3bar (so max basicly) with the ignition on, even if the engine is off. ive yet to spot that sensor either in my short time looking about under the bonnet.
im resonably sure they are both sensor/gauge problems rather than 'real' faults from my experience of engines it seems to work fine if you see what i mean.

The oil pressure is down to the sensor. Its duff. new one costs £28 from Merc. The temperature sensor is sat (looking at the front of the engine) on the right hand side of the rocker cover and is about 6inches back. (22mm spanner size).

I've seen a few of these oil gauges now that pin at 3 when the ignition is turned on. On two cars the owner said the sender had been replaced but that didn't cure it. If they're right (and you never really know till you test it yourself) I would suspect the gauge

cheers for that. i thought i spotted the temp sensor in the head today, you've just comfirmed it.
where is the oil pressure sensor though? is it the one in the nearside of the sump? if so would it still read max with the wire pulled off? because mine does.

in all honesty as long as i get the temp gauge working i'll be happy, it doesnt rattle so the oil pressure must be ok.
