Hello H, I do not understand how you can think that the throtle cable can make the car quicker, what worries me is that if you do not know what it looks like, what are you going to do with it, if you find it.

If the throttle linkages are the same as a 320CE, I would check those as there are a lot and it just needs one sticky one.

If you disconnect the cable at the engine end you should be able to check if the cable is smooth.

I was just told to tighten it

its a 3litre and it should have more power it isnt really bad but I do have to put my foot completly down to go. I don't know why its doing this any help would be great. Also the kickback switch, when you put the pedal completly down theres a button which clicks its suppose to be boost or something lol but it isnt working tried many times but no luck.

The problem is that its taking of far to slow is there anything I could do to get it back to normal?

I wont do this myself as I don;t want to mess it up but my dad and my uncle are both machanics which will be able to do it, they both don't know what to do. Scared if they do something it will mess up.

Many Thanks To All That Help Me :D :D

Why no get the Haines book, the thing with throtle cables is that they are fitted by measurements to and from special markers. the kick down notch has to be set at a certain distance from the end and etc, you will never get it right without.

Buy a Book by Haines on the MB 124. you can buy this book at Halfords. it cost about £14 or on Ebay for £3 It will tell you what to do.
Maybe Bolide can help

Is there any slack on the cable?

I think there is some adjustment in the footwell, but you have to remove a panel to get at it properly.

Adjusting the throttle and transmission cables are pretty easy on the 124- I did mine on my old 300E which was set up for american- style driving (i.e slow) with no help and I didn't know much about cars back then.

The Haynes manual will give you a pointer, and make a mark/note of where the adjusters were when you started so if you balls it up you can go back to where you started.

i have a similar problem with my car... it has about 1cm of just not doing anything, where is feels its loose it seems the biting point (when the car regisiters someone is putting pressure on accelerator) is a bit down.

Not sure if this is related to a accelrator cable tightening problem but i love to ask more technical members if this is the case :)

To be honest guys I don't even know if its this, I got told its the cable and to tighten it. It might not even be that I donno you lot are much clever. The car isn't taking off as fast as it shound, it isn't proper bad but I thought if it gets sorted it might run better etc. Also the switch isn't working behide the accelerator. The car is drinking alot of petrol aswell. Other than that its perfect I love it. I just wont to sort the take off problem, wont to know why the switch behide the pedal isn't working and why its drinking so much :(

I had a w123 230ce & if I recall when the kickdown switch went on the blink the symptoms were as you are experiencing now. The part was cheap & straightforward to replace. Try GSF/Eurocarparts as well as stealers to compare price & get your dad/uncle to help fit. It could eliminate your problems very simply

Sticky jerky throttle when doing slow manoeuvres

If there's anyone technically knowledgeable on here at the moment I really would appreciate suggestions right now as my local garage is currently in possession of my 1994 280TE and muttering darkly about the autobox... the car roars for about 2 minutes when first started in the morning then quietens down, but the throttle is really stiff after an initial bit of slack, and so it is a real sod to 'inch' forward or backwards in it to park/get out of parking spaces - one minute nothing happens the next you just press a tiny bit harder holding your breath and it shoots forward and you have to be dead handy with the brakes. An indy garage said there was nothing wrong although someone had set a spring/coil(?) deliberately tight so that it could cruise on the motorway without too much driver effort, and he loosened that. Now it's still problematic and my local (different) garage are saying there's nothing wrong with the linkage etc but they think there might be a problem with the autobox. I know the gearbox oil has been changed recently, and if there was something wrong with the gearbox surely the independent garage would have picked up on it? Is there anything that can go wrong with the gearbox that doesn't require a second mortgage to be taken out?
Thanks in advance
Amanda
